How to use this tool
- Upload your photo by dropping it in or tapping the box.
- Choose a passport or visa preset, or type a custom width and height.
- Add a maximum size in KB if the form has a limit, then download the JPG.
Main UK rules
- Online: at least 600 × 750 px, under 10 MB, JPG
- Print: 35 × 45 mm, head 29–34 mm from chin to crown
- Plain cream or light grey background, no shadows
- No glasses, neutral expression, mouth closed
- Taken within the last month
The online application asks someone else to take the photo rather than a selfie, so the camera is at the right distance. If GOV.UK rejects the picture, the message usually tells you why. Check the official guidance before you apply, as requirements can change.
