When to switch from PNG to JPG
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which makes photos very large. If you have photos or phone screenshots saved as PNG and a form or email rejects them for size, JPG is the easy fix. For screenshots with lots of text, keep quality at 90% or above so letters stay crisp.
Frequently asked questions
Why are PNG files so big?
PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly. JPG discards detail you barely notice.
Does PNG to JPG lose quality?
A little, but at 90% quality it is usually invisible.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
They turn white, because JPG doesn't support transparency.
