When you need images instead of a PDF
Many job and exam portals accept only JPG uploads for certificates and ID documents. Social media and WhatsApp statuses also need images. Converting each page to a JPG solves both.
Choosing quality
Standard (72 dpi) gives small files suitable for screens and upload limits. High (144 dpi) keeps small text readable and is the best default. Print (216 dpi) is for documents you'll print. If the result is still too large for a form, run it through the photo resizer and set a KB limit.
JPG or PNG?
Large PDFs with many pages can take a few seconds on older phones, because every page is drawn in full. If a page comes out blank, the PDF may use an unusual font or be damaged; opening it in a PDF reader and saving a fresh copy usually fixes it.
JPG keeps file sizes small and suits scanned pages and photos. PNG keeps text perfectly sharp but files are bigger. To go the other way, from images back to a PDF, use JPG to PDF.
