How to use this tool
- Pick a start date and an end date.
- Tick the box if the end date itself should count, for example when booking hotel nights versus counting full days of leave.
- Read the total days, plus weeks, months and working days.
Counting days correctly
By default the calculator counts the gap between the two dates, the same way you would count nights in a hotel stay. From 1 March to 3 March is 2 days. If you need both the first and last day counted, as with annual leave or a course that runs on both days, tick "include the end date" and you get 3.
Working days
Working days are Monday to Friday. Public holidays differ by country, state and year, so they aren't removed automatically. Subtract the bank holidays in your period for a final figure. In England there are usually eight bank holidays a year, and India's list depends on the state.
Handy uses
Count down to a wedding, exam or holiday, work out notice periods and contract lengths, check how many days are left on a visa, or calculate a baby's due date window. Project managers use the working day total to plan deadlines.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are there between two dates?
Enter both dates above. The tool subtracts the start from the end and shows the exact number of days.
Should I include the end date?
Include it when both days count, such as leave or event days. Leave it out when counting nights or elapsed time.
Are public holidays excluded from working days?
No. Only weekends are excluded, because holidays differ by country and region.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. It uses the real calendar, so 29 February is counted in leap years.
