How to use this tool
- Enter what you have now and how much you plan to add each month.
- Set the yearly interest or expected return, the number of years and how often interest compounds.
- Check the final balance and the table to see how much came from interest.
How the estimate works
Each monthly instalment is added to the balance and grows at the monthly equivalent of the annual rate. Contributions here are added at the end of each month; some SIP calculators assume the start of the month, which gives a slightly higher figure.
Be realistic
Past returns don't guarantee future returns. Equity funds can fall sharply in some years. Using 8–10% gives a more cautious picture, and inflation will reduce what the final amount can buy. SEBI rules require mutual fund ads to carry the warning that investments are subject to market risks.
Frequently asked questions
How is SIP return calculated?
Each monthly payment compounds at the monthly rate until the end of the period.
Is 12% SIP return realistic?
It has been achieved over some long periods but is not guaranteed. Try lower rates as well.
What is step-up SIP?
Raising the SIP amount each year. This calculator uses a fixed monthly amount.
